PM Koirala, Prachanda meeting to hammer out fresh deal

KATHMANDU, Sept 26 - Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala will be holding discussions with CPN-M Chairman Prachanda Wednesday afternoon in a bid to find new agreements to coerce the Maoists to bring back into the government for timely Constituent Assembly polls.
According to Maoist leader CP Gajurel, PM Koirala and Prachanda will mainly discuss declaration of republic prior to the polls and full proportional electoral system, among others. Declaration of republic through the House and full proportional electoral system are two major political demands mentioned in the Maoists’ ‘22-point pre-requisites’ for elections.
Similarly, another Maoist leader Barsha Man Pun ‘Ananta’ said that the leaders will discuss endorsing a proposal to declare the country a republic prior to the polls to be ratified by the elected Constituent Assembly and making the electoral system ‘more’ proportional.
Since the Maoist pull-out of the government on September 18, polls, which are just 56 days away, have been in peril in the wake of the Maoists’ public announcement that they would not let polls happen unless country is declared a republic through parliament.
Following the Maoists’ resignation from the government, top leaders of the eight parties had gathered together to coerce them back into the government.
On Monday, Maoist Chairman Prachanda had hinted that his party could join the government if a new cabinet is formed.
Prachanda had ruled out any possibility that his party would join the current coalition government with the existing leadership.

INDIA WON BY ONLY 5 RUNS IN TWENTY 20 WORLD CUP
September 26: After reaching the Wankhede Stadium, the Twenty20 World Cup winners Team India were felicitated at the stadium on Wednesday.
Amidst a roaring crowd, a historic reception was given to the proud Team India. The first player to be felicitated was star performer Yuvraj Singh. The all-rounder was handed a cash award of Rs 80 lakhs and keys of the Porsche car.
With the title song of Chak De India being played in the background, Yuvraj and rest of the players were felicitated. Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the last one to receive the felicitation. The Government of Maharashtra presented a garland to Dhoni for Team India.
The board members dominated the front row of the stage. The Twenty20 World Cup heroes were seated in the second row at Wankhede, while Dhoni was the only team member seated in the front row with BCCI officials.
Earlier an open-bus carried the Twenty20 World Cup winning team on a victory parade through the streets of the city to reach the stadium.
Thousands of fans assembled at the stadium braving heavy rains to witness the public felicitation of the Indian cricket team which won the Twenty20 World Cup on Monday.
